Getting Started on 3oc

3oC is reimagining how people build trust in the digital world before they meet in real life.

Verifying ID

ID verification is optional, but it adds a lot of value. It not only helps build trust in the system, it also lets you choose what verified details you want to share with the people you’re meeting — and what they can share with you.

Our system supports passports from over 150 countries, including NFC chip passports (the most reliable option), along with Canadian and U.S. driver’s licenses. We’re expanding supported ID types all the time.

faq

We integrate secure ID technology that’s built on a zero-knowledge & zero-trust approach. That means:

  • Your personal info is encrypted and stored only on your own device — never on our servers or “in the cloud.”

  • It lives in your device’s Secure Enclave or Keychain, protected by hardware-level security.

  • Not even our ID provider can see or access it — only your device can.

Nowhere. We don’t keep it, and neither does our ID technology partner. Once you’re verified, your data stays safely on your device, under your control.

We’re fully transparent: we avoid big centralized databases, since those are prime targets for hackers. With our system, your identity never leaves your device — you’re always in control.

Our ID technology uses biometric checks, proof-of-personhood, and proof-of-uniqueness to confirm you’re a real human and not already registered under another identity. All of this happens privately and securely, without relying on a global identity database.

Your verified ID is never stored on our servers, so we can’t “pull” it from a database. In the rare event of a serious safety or legal issue, we’re developing a clear disclosure policy to outline exactly what limited information we can share with authorities — and only when required by law. Our priority is to protect both user safety and user privacy.

As part of ID verification, our technology partner runs a biometric sanctions screening. This simply means they check that the person verifying isn’t listed on any government watchlists, sanctions lists, or databases that would prevent them from using the service.

No. The screening is done securely through encrypted checks. Your personal details aren’t shared or stored in a government database — the system just confirms whether you’re clear to use the platform.

It helps keep the community safer by preventing bad actors — like people flagged for fraud, terrorism financing, or other serious crimes — from creating accounts. It’s an added layer of protection for everyone.

If a match is found, that person won’t be able to complete verification or access the platform. For ordinary users, this doesn’t affect the experience at all — it only matters if there’s a confirmed match against official sanctions lists.

Social Media Verification

Login to your social media accounts to verify they belong to you. Like all verified information, you can choose each time if you would like to share that information with the other person or not. Impersonator accounts are becoming more and more common. This helps you build trust that you are not one of them. We continue to add more social media platforms to connect with.

invite & Connect

Whether you’re inviting someone you plan to meet in person for the first time, or adding a trusted friend as your backup, the process is the same.

Meeting IRL

How irls work in 3oc

An IRL is any event where you plan to meet someone face-to-face. Here’s how to set one up:

  1. Add your details – Give your IRL a title, choose the type of meetup, and set the time and location.
  2. Set reminders – Pick when you’d like 3oC to send a push notification, prompting you to check in or request backup support.
  3. Invite your IRL bud – Add the person you’re meeting. Their identity stays private and isn’t shared with anyone else.
  4. Add backup buds – Invite one or more trusted friends to be on standby. We encourage always having backups in place for extra peace of mind.
  5. Write IRL notes – Share clear instructions with your backup buds on what to do if you signal for support. These notes go only to your backups, never to the person you’re meeting.

All of your upcoming IRLs — plus any where you’ve agreed to be someone else’s backup — are stored in the IRL tab of the app.

Verified Info

If there’s information that’s important for you to have verified and visible before meeting IRL, you can request it by tapping the Share Info button next to a connection’s profile.

New connections can also make requests from you. Everyone chooses what to share and what to keep private — all verified and transparent.

When a request is made, the other person gets a push notification and can consent before anything is shared. Once approved, the verified information appears in their profile in the 3oC app.
